In January 2005 Sir Richard Nichols, Michael Dicken, David Jones CBE and Tom Isaacs co-founded The Cure Parkinson’s Trust, to fight Parkinson’s disease, both for themselves and everyone touched by the condition. The Cure Parkinson’s Trust aims to raise funds to help find a cure for this degenerative neurological condition that progressively and restrictively affects a person’s movement. To date, the charity has directed more than £1.2 million into cutting-edge projects and inspirational researchers. The Trust raises funds through events organized by its fundraising arm, Movers & Shakers, as well as approaching trusts and other funding bodies.

Parkinson’s disease can affect anyone at any time. David Jones was diagnosed at the age of 39 and fellow co-founder Tom Isaacs was diagnosed at the age of 27. The Cure Parkinson’s Trust believes that an effective antidote to curb the progression of the illness will be available within five years. An outright cure may be further away, but the Trust aims to act as a catalyst to drive towards a cure for this disabling condition, which affects over 1 million people in the UK either directly or indirectly. The Trust links scientists through research meetings, and aims to mobilise patient power to provide researchers with informed patients who can provide valuable insight into this subtle disease. The Trust also wants to lobby for changes in the research agenda so that the latest medical science can become useable drugs, quickly and cheaply.

There is genuine hope for a cure for this disease….. with your help, we will find it!
